Square one/ Breaking in a New Journal
This is a follow-up note from the previous blog post. If you didn’t read that post - find it here.
Just so you know, I had immediately purchased a new journal…..
My initial painting/ collage trials when I was learning color had been in a large Dylusions creative journal. (I liked the paper and how it held up to my creative abuse.)
Sooooo many lessons learned. Like the pink Dylusions ink spray absolutely cannot be covered up with anything. And when i say anything- go ahead and test that. That bubblegum pink will come through gesso. Gesso and white paint. Another coat of paint. And maybe more gesso.
I purchased a square journal this time.
And I mean, honestly who doesn’t appreciate a square journal?!
A square is the perfect substrate for abstract….back to square one if i may say.
A step back to colorful, messy play. Puddles. (Maybe lakes- isn’t that what the underpaper is for?!) Scribbles.
Sides all equal. Each volleying for the chance to be the “top.”
And although I kept the journal the “right side up” - I have to say, this first page felt good.
So hope you enjoy the process video.
