Behave as perennials

I was recently discussing words of the year with friends and when asked what mine was for 2024- I couldn’t remember. Lol. (Insert eye roll here.)

But, if you don’t know, I have two studios right now and as such- did not properly “plant” my word into the most currently used studio; which has become abundantly clear while we are “home” for the holidays.

I have been reflecting on that…. The forgetting part because my word for 2024 was sow.

And, I did feel like I planted seeds. I should have possibly watered those more, but when planted, I did know that once I got to a certain part of the year, life would happen (literally- we were waiting for our first grand baby- YAY!), and the seeds would have to fend for themselves……. Until I could contemplate them again.

Thus bringing me full circle to January, 2025.

I did the Artsy Marathon hosted by Kiala Givehand for most of new year’s eve day and into early evening. When asked to put our word for this year into the chat- I hesitated.

And did not type anything. Quietly sitting.

Watching all the words, numbers and short phrases scroll by. I can’t say exactly how I felt other than, not 100% sold on any words I had been mildly considering.

I had been cutting and collecting words and phrases over the last couple of days for my marathon project- knowing I would be teaching and would need these for my little cards.

And I would be remiss to say how much one phrase would touch me after it was glued onto a little card and placed into my 2025 year matchbox.

Behave as perennials.”

Which after talking about sowing for 2024, seemed to fit absolutely perfectly for 2025.

To behave as perennials, some things may flourish easily and go absolutely crazy; and others may struggle to keep alive and just get a stem up. Probably won’t even flower. (this year) and will need extra time.

I will continue to do my part. Tend to my creative garden.

But, I do like to think that I shall behave as perennials for 2025.

Keep showing up. (maybe even where I am not supposed to)

Hopefully, larger, better than last year.

And if not, know that maybe more time and love is needed, until it is time to really blossom again, and spread more roots.

I will take up more (creative) space. (Each year looks a little different.)

And if I keep going, who knows how far I can spread. Hopefully, seeding others.

If you have read to the end…. thank you. so much for being here. I appreciate you more than you know.

Happy New Year.
