imaginative courage
i am a put-the-paint-down and wash most of it off.
i am scribble-with-the-pencil and own that mark. even if you almost poke through the substrate…. (i can fix it)
i am thoughtful about color; and usually thinking two steps ahead.
i am a let’s-try-this and see what happens.
i am a we-can-always-calm-it-down; make the mess….have a good time artist.
sometimes we need to lean harder into the happy accidents, like the orange leaking under the tape. it created such contrast to the clean straight edges of the rest of the painting above. (look for moments of awe that provide joy)
trial. error. exploration.
imaginative courage.
i read those words the other day and thought, wow, that really embraces a lot across the board for artists. (all artists, because the article was about a musician) and the words were so powerful…… those words are almost yelling at me now, as i sit here.
i like the large painting currently sitting in my studio- but, i know it is not completely finished. the painting is close…… it is at the stage where i am having a bit of freight because i don’t want to screw it up. how crazy is that?! screw it up. lol. it is just paint and canvas.
typing this monologue i believe has given me the spoonful of imaginative courage i needed to get this painting finished. or at least one more step closer. (pics below. the canvas measures 48”x60”)
if you are still reading you are probably thinking, is she always this crazy? lol. thank you for being here.
listening. reading. providing feedback. encouragement. love.
