Creating the daily practice
I have been thinking about my 100 day project this year which is the #100paintingswithkp and how if I haven’t done something in a while, I feel that “voice” wobble and be unsure of what needs to be told and how to say it.
I have the heart of an artist. I love mixed media and especially collage, and can do that daily…..but, I had painted a journal cover in live online class recently and had almost forgotten how much i like paint.
How i like to paint with my fingers, and let it lift with water, or get a little muddy. Or better yet, that perfect pop of color in the focal point.
And then, I knew what I needed to do for the 100 day project…… for me anyway, I needed to feel that stretch of paint. My goal is to not use any collage. To just “create paintings.”
And for these paintings to really be just that. Paintings. Paint.
Sometimes it takes a bit to find that path again.
I have had some good days within these first 17 days and some days where I was like what in the heck is this? Thank goodness this is just paper….. what is paint?! Why is it doing that?
I so loved the happy accident of painting prints that i got the other day from painting on a piece of jean material. I posted my video on this jean painting here.
These prints are just so delicious to me. I love the granulation. The colors. And can we talk about the papertowel?!….. I don’t always have papertowels with an embossed pattern- I just happened to have that roll in my studio…. a little serendipity if you will.
So today (I am writing this on Tuesday evening), I could feel a shift in my paintings today.
An “ah-ha” moment if you will…… Why didn’t I think about this before now? Which is exactly why the daily continued practice is important.; especially for me….. I need time to think things over. To let them “cook.”
The first year I participated in the 100 day project was 2018 and it is the only year I have made it all way to the end.
I made it to 100. I am determined to make it this year and setting my intention here with you as further accountability.
Here is a look back at My first 100 day project year I used timecards.
This bring me a huge smile. There were some timecards that were sooooo darn good and absolutely wouldn’t have been created had I not started. And, I also noted how “new” I was at videos. I tried so hard to keep them as short and to the point as possible so I didn’t have to do any edits! Lol.
I thought I would share that I wouldn’t be where I am now today without all of the technology help from Roben-Marie Smith and her Maker’s Tech U. If you are looking for technology help…… Maker’s Tech U is the answer for creatives tackle tech. Click here to get additional information using my link.
Thanks for holding time for me.
