Facing it

loved this view.

the scratchiness of her neck makes me think of vintage items that have been painted over and painted over, and are now chipped, and scratched and showing wear.

this is what she started on.

many layers of paint. i believe there is even some collage hiding somewhere in the layers.

can you feel the “i give up!” in the top layer of white?…… (shrug) sometimes this is where things land until they are called upon for something else. just want to be transparent that sometimes for sure this at least, happens to me.

although, i liked the line of scratchy hashmarks and the square-ish square at the top. (so there is still some hope)

what was interesting this time, was i hopped right in with watered down black acrylic paint. (mildly following a lesson from Kara Bullock’s Let’s Face It 2022: Patrick Greenwell)- typically, we have started with some drawing first; so this was interesting.

and a serendipitous thick line on the right side…. i meant to touch the loaded paintbrush up higher, and it quickly ran down creating a deluge for the side of her face. which i actually really like now.

i ended up moving the right eye over- the eyes were too close together. (insert eye roll here). notice the scratched in lines for reference. and when i was removing the first eye, i ended up scrubbing a bit and removed a little of the white paint underneath. see the subtle hint of green now by the eye?…… my other option would have been to paint over it and start again, but I tend to scrub first and then try painting over.

happier once the eye was moved for sure. now i am just left contemplating her as a whole. i love the difference in the eyes and the dots in her hair. the overall scratchiness of her face; but, i feel conflicted about the background. i have added a shoulder space to the right side to ground that and yet…..

the background when i look at her remains too…..

white.

stark.

so i will let her sit for a short spell and see what i come up with.
